Cineworks Live

Cineworks Live is a live video streaming service that is designed to bring Cineworks’ services directly to the client, regardless of where the client might be. By using Cineworks Live, the client can be directly connected to the color correction or editing session in real time, allowing live collaboration between the client and the colorist or editor. In addition, any material already recorded on videotape can be played live over the same feed. Since it operates over the Internet, the only requirement is a computer and a broadband Internet connection.

Cineworks Live uses Windows Media as its streaming format. We have found that for the limited bandwidth of Internet connections, Windows Media offers the best quality at relatively low data rates. The quality of the images you receive is almost completely dependent on your Internet connection. The higher the bandwidth, the larger the image and the better the quality, particularly on rapidly moving images. We have found, however, that even at relatively low bandwidth, the color in the live stream is quite accurate. It should, however, be noted that the purpose of Cineworks Live is not to replace critical evaluation using high quality video images, but to allow the client to directly participate in the session in a more general way, and eliminate any surprises when the final material is delivered.

Requirements for participating in a Cineworks Live session are:

If you have a standard PC running Windows XP, you’re all set. If you have a Mac, you must install Windows Media Player 9. The newer Windows Media Component for Quicktime will not play the live stream at this time. If you need a copy of the Windows Media Player 9 for the Mac, we can supply you with an installer, or you can download it directly from Microsoft.
